IN YOUR BAG: TIPS

REBOUNDING

1. It is very important to box out.

Boxing out is taking away your opponents position for the rebound by making sure you stay in between them and ther rim.

To correctly box out:

- Step towards the opponent your guarding or whoever is closest.

- Make contact with them so you don't lose track of them.

- Reverse pivot into your opponent.

- Drive your bottom back staying low.

- Spread out arms while driving your base back.

2. Keep your eyes on the ball.

Keeping your eyes on the ball allow you to mentally calculate the trajectory of the ball after it hits the rim and helps you anticipate where it will end up.

3. Secure the rebound.

Once you grab the rebound make sure you squeeze it tightly especially while in traffic, defenders are always lurking and trying to take the ball from you.

4. Chin the ball.

Putting the ball under your chin and sticking out your elbows discourage defenders from getting in your space because a blow from your elbows could be a lethal blow if they suddenly reach. This is protecting you and the ball but make sure to never swing your elbows because that is considered an offensive foul.

5. Run to the front of the rim. At the front of the rim you have a higher percentage of the ball bouncing back to you if its a miss. Following your teammate after dribble pentetration and on fast breaks puts you in position to get many offenstive boards.
