Wutaishan - or Five Peaked Mountain - is a Buddhist holy mountain that is home to more than 40 temples, some of which were first built more than 2000 years ago in the Tang Dynasty. A common site for domestic and international pilgrims alike, Wutaishan sees millions of visitors and worshippers each year.

The temples are predominantly autonomous. Small repairs fall to the individual temples to fund, using both donations and ticket sales from tourists and pilgrims alike. For each temple, the cost of a ticket is 10 Yuan, which is equivalent to $1.50 and redeemable for one entry into the temple. The maximum ticket price has been set by the Chinese Government, to ensure that the temples remain as accessible to all visitors as possible.
